The Great Facebook and Instagram Shutdown: Diversifying Your Marketing
Where were you during the Great facebook and Instagram shutdown of 2021?
Obviously, we write the above question as a joke. The consequences of the Facebook and Instagram shutdown that took place certainly weren’t life-threatening but the outage did allow us to thank our lucky stars for the gift of a diversified marketing plan.
If your main way of reaching customers was either Facebook or Instagram, did you panic during the outage? We imagine that some of you did.
This is why we want to stress that old saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” This is very important in marketing as well. You have to be able to communicate with your customers in multiple ways.
Here are our favorite ways to diversify your marketing strategy:
Building an email/Newsletter list
If you don’t already have an email marketing platform, stop what you’re doing and set up an account now.
We can’t express how important email marketing has become. When a potential customer signs up for your email list, you have the ability to send them information straight to their mailbox. What’s the incentive for the email sign-up? Offer a freebie. Here is our freebie page.
Select platforms You can easily repost to
When we create content the best way to get the best bang for your buck is to repurpose that content. Your last Instagram post can be your next Pinterest post if you just do a little size adjusting. Select a few social media profiles that you can easily repost. It’s not only helpful in expanding your reach but it also keeps you secure if one social media platform crashes.
Secure your FREE business listings
Free business listings are an easy way to get your name out there while also improving your SEO (search engine optimization). A few of these listings include Yelp, Bing, and Google My Business. Most of these listings offer a place for your customers to review your services and offerings too.
Attend local/virtual events
It’s strange to imagine the “before times” where we shook hands and met people face-to-maskless-face. While that opportunity isn’t as prevalent as it used to be, virtual meet-ups have become a staple in the networking world and are a must when you want to reach new people.
